Well thought-out blog post, Jake. And thanks for stopping by my Substack to comment.

I'm not ready to give up on creationism just yet. But I have long abandoned young-earth claims. There's more than enough evidence, biblical and scientific, to point in other directions. You are right, however, in your biblical principles. The text was not intended to be a scientific treatise. It's absurd to think a creator would deliver natural light on Day One and the object that produces natural light on Day Four. Yet, that's what strict biblical literalists want us all to believe. At any rate, there is no reason for this issue to be a dividing line for anyone committed to the Christ of the Bible.
